Today we ventured out with Kyle to KAUST beach which is located about a 10 minute bus ride from the main campus. The beach facility has lots of options and we'll be going for a full day on Friday. Today however was reserved for sailing. They had a nice Hobie 16 but KAUST won't let them rent it until they offer classes to train sailors. Apparently there is lots of coral in the bay and capsizing is thought to be a large risk. Thus we opted for a mono hull with a jib and main sail.
Wind was very steady and not too overwhelming. We initially went out together (Kelly, Kyle, me) but the boat was a bit too unstable with three bodies. Thus we then switched to two at a time. Very smooth but brisk wind.
